Introduction: Mesoscience studies the evolution rules of mesoscale heterogeneous structures between “microscale” and “macroscale”. The mesoscale in chemical engineering is mainly manifested in the spatio-temporal scale of the material interface from molecules to particles, and the spatio-temporal scale of clusters from particles to the whole reactor. Furthermore, artificial intelligence approaches are playing an increasingly important role in chemical engineering. Data-driven and machine learning methods can be used to infer correlations, develop models, improve processes/systems, and even create intelligent systems that can adaptively learn from the data through data mining and machine learning.
