CIESC
The Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) was established in Beijing on April 23, 1922. Its predecessors were the China Chemical Industry Society and the China Chemical Engineering Society, making it one of the earliest national, public interest, and academic social organizations in China. The society was founded and strengthened over generations by pioneers of the Chinese chemical industry such as Mr. hizhang, Mr. Yu Tongkui, Mr. Fan Xudong, Mr. Wu Yunchu, Mr. Hou Debang, Mr. Hou Xianglin, Mr. Min Enze and other S&T workers. Over the past century, CIESC has mirrored the development of China’s chemical industry from its inception to its current state of strength. Throughout this journey, the society has aligned with national progress and the pace of the times, uniting, inspiring, and guiding generations of chemical S&T professionals. It has been committed to promoting the advancement of chemical technology in China and has made significant contributions to the outstanding achievements of the nation's chemical industry.
CIESC is an organization formed voluntarily by chemical S&T professionals and related entities. It holds the status of a legal entity and serves as a bridge between S&T professionals and the government. It is an integral part of the national innovation system. The society diligently fulfills its mission of serving S&T workers, supporting innovation-driven development, enhancing public scientific literacy and assisting in informed decision-making by the government. CIESC promotes the prosperity and advancement of chemical science, its dissemination and application, the growth and development of talent, and the integration of chemical with economic development. It upholds the legitimate rights of chemical S&T professionals, fostering an open, hub-like, and platform-oriented academic organization that unites these professionals more closely, contributing to the realization of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
Prof. Dai Houliang, Chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), serves as the President of the 41st Council of CIESC. Currently, the society comprises 44 professional committees and 8 working committees, with over 500 institutional members and more than 65,000 individual members. CIESC publishes five academic journals: Journal of Chemical Industry and Engineering (China), Chemical Industry and Engineering Progress, Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering (English edition), Energy Storage Science and Technology, and Petrochemical Technology, alongside 29 specialized journals run by its branches. The society has established cooperative relationships with dozens of international organizations and is a member of World Chemical Engineering Council (WCEC) and a rotating chair society of the Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE). In 2017, CIESC successfully won the hosting rights for the 12th World Congress of Chemical Engineering and the 21st Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering Congress (WCCE12 & APPChE2025).
